Press Release January 2015

has secured compensation for a man injured in a terrifying accident at work on 30 April 2012.

Paul Davey was working for Cramscene Limited as a heavy good driver. He was crushed between a HGV and a mobile crane. He was in the process of connecting a HGV tractor unit to a HGV trailer unit which was parked closely between another tractor and a mobile crane. After he connected the compressed air hoses from the tractor to the trailer, both the tractor and trailer started to roll forwards. He attempted to climb into the tractor’s cab but was crushed between the tractor and the adjacent mobile crane before he could reach safety inside the cab causing traumatic injuries.

The aftermath of the accident was recorded and broadcast on the BBC’s Helicopter Heroes. He needed immediate life-saving care and was taken to hospital by Air Ambulance.

Mr Davey suffered life changing injuries including a severe crush injury to the pelvis, urological and bladder damage, fractures to his shoulder and his leg resulting in drop foot and post-traumatic stress disorder.

Mr Davey complained that he was given no formal training despite informing his employer that he had no experience of driving HGVs since February 2010 and was deployed on his first day to drive an articulated HGV tractor. In the course of the litigation Cramscene produced training documents that were dated before Mr Davey had started to work for them.

PI Support secured £265,000 in settlement for Mr Davey.

Mr Davey said “I am very grateful to Ian Aris at PI Support for supporting my claim and for his expertise and doing his utmost for me. Ian was absolutely brilliant, he was extremely supportive and did everything that he could for me. Nothing was too much trouble and he worked extremely hard for me”.
